Exciting news for Marvel fans and horror enthusiasts alike! The highly anticipated “Marvel Zombies” series has officially been scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in October 2025. This limited series marks a significant departure from Marvel’s typically family-friendly content, as it comes with a TV-MA rating that promises to deliver a more intense and horrific experience.

A Continuation of the “What If…?” Universe

If you caught the episode of “What If…?” Season 1 that featured a zombie-infested alternate reality, you’re already familiar with the world this new series will explore. “Marvel Zombies” serves as a direct sequel to that memorable story, which showed us what might have happened if events from “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and “Avengers: Infinity War” had taken a gruesome turn. The episode ended with the surviving heroes heading to Wakanda, unaware that a zombified Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet had already decimated the area.

Star-Studded Voice Cast

The series features an impressive lineup of Marvel Cinematic Universe actors reprising their roles, including:

  • Awkwafina (Katy)
  • David Harbour (Red Guardian)
  • Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
  • Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch)
  • Randall Park (Jimmy Woo)
  • Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova)
  • Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop)
  • Dominique Thorne (Ironheart)
  • Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel)

Showrunner Bryan Andrews has also teased the return of Zombie Captain America, promising “quite a scuffle with another main character” that fans will love.

A Darker Marvel Experience

What makes “Marvel Zombies” particularly intriguing is its mature rating. According to Andrews, the TV-MA designation has allowed the creative team to go “a little bit more hardcore” with the content. “We go for the throat – no pun intended. It’s pretty wild, pretty out there,” he explained.

Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, previously told IGN that the series would take a darker tone, confirming it as “pretty intense” and “for sure a TV-MA show.”

More Than Just Zombies

Despite the horror elements, Andrews assures fans that the series won’t be all gore and no substance. “It’s not just a zombie story, it’s a sweeping adventure – one with themes of hope and despair, and that’s what you want from a rich zombie story,” he stated. This suggests that beneath the undead mayhem, we can expect the emotional depth and character development that Marvel is known for.

The series is based on the comic run of the same name, which depicts an alternate universe where various heroes become infected while the uninfected ones struggle to save themselves and the world. The concept was officially announced by Marvel Studios as a continuation of the universe introduced in the “What If…?” episode.

As we approach Halloween 2025, expect to hear much more about this series. With its mature rating, star-studded cast, and promise of both horror and heart, “Marvel Zombies” is shaping up to be one of the most unique entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date.

Are you ready to see your favorite heroes in a whole new light-or rather, in the shadows of a zombie apocalypse? October 2025 can’t come soon enough!
