Marvel Studios has locked in a bold and unusual release plan for its next big team-up movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. For the first time in the studio’s history, fans will face a full year with no Marvel Cinematic Universe movies between two Avengers films.
After years of packed calendars and back-to-back releases, Marvel is slowing down. The gap between Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 will be long, quiet, and very different from what we are used to.
Avengers 5 And Avengers 6: What We Know
Marvel is bringing back the big crossover event with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, set near the end of the Multiverse Saga.
These movies are expected to unite heroes from across different corners of the MCU. This includes new teams like the Fantastic Four and the original X-Men from Marvel’s classic stories, along with fan favorites from past phases.
It has already been a long break. By the time Avengers: Doomsday arrives, fans will have waited about seven years since Avengers: Endgame was released in 2019. So the return of the Avengers is a big deal.
A Historic 12-Month Gap With No MCU Movies
The real surprise came when Disney updated its release schedule. The studio removed an untitled Marvel movie that was set for July 2027. Many fans thought that date might belong to Doctor Strange 3 or a Shang-Chi sequel.
Instead, that spot has now gone to The Simpsons Movie 2. This move confirmed that there will be no Marvel films in theaters between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

That means fans will wait a full 12 months between the two big movies, with no other MCU titles to fill the gap. This has never happened before with Avengers films.
In past phases, Marvel often released other titles between Avengers entries. For example, between Infinity War and Endgame, we got Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel. This time, the story will jump straight from one Avengers film to the next, with a long pause in between.
From Fire Hose To Slow Drip: Marvel’s New Strategy
This change is part of a bigger shift at Marvel Studios. From 2021 onward, Marvel released over 25 live-action projects across theaters and Disney+. Many fans felt the content flow was too heavy and hard to keep up with.
Now, the studio is pulling back. Reports say that Disney CEO Bob Iger is not happy with how light the 2026 movie slate looks. That year will only feature Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday in theaters.
On top of that, Marvel is already in the middle of another record gap. Fans are currently facing 371 days between MCU films in the Multiverse Saga, from The Fantastic Four: First Steps to Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July 2025.
So the year-long break between Doomsday and Secret Wars fits a bigger pattern. Marvel seems more focused on spacing content out, improving quality, and making each project feel like more of an event.
Why Marvel Might Be Slowing Down
There are a few clear reasons Marvel could be choosing this slower plan:
- Quality control – fewer projects mean more time to work on scripts, effects, and reshoots.
- Audience fatigue – too many shows and movies at once left some viewers confused or burned out.
- Budget focus – big crossovers like Secret Wars will be expensive and complex.
- Story focus – giving the next Avengers movies space may help build hype and keep the plot clear.
A quiet year between Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 could also give fans time to rewatch older films, catch up on missed shows, and build theories before the Multiverse Saga finale.
What This Means For Avengers: Secret Wars
Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to be the climax of the Multiverse Saga, much like Endgame was for the Infinity Saga. The story is likely to feature multiple universes, different versions of heroes, and the biggest cast Marvel has ever put on screen.

Having a full year between movies gives Marvel time to:
- Polish the visual effects and action scenes
- Fine-tune the script based on fan response to Doomsday
- Market the movie as a once-in-a-generation event
- Refresh interest in the MCU after a lighter release schedule
It also raises the stakes. If fans have waited a whole year after a huge cliffhanger, the pressure on Secret Wars to deliver will be massive.
Will Fans Be Patient Enough To Wait?
For some viewers, the gap will feel frustrating. Many grew used to watching at least a few Marvel projects each year. A long break might test the patience of casual fans.
On the other hand, long waits can boost hype when they are handled well. People waited years for Endgame, and the payoff felt worth it for many.
If Avengers: Doomsday ends on a powerful note, the quiet year that follows could be full of online theories, watch parties, and build-up. Creators on YouTube, TikTok, and blogs will have plenty of time to explore every frame and clue.
Marvel Studios is entering a new era. After years of near-constant releases, the studio is choosing fewer movies, more space, and one historic gap between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
No MCU films will fill the 12 months between the two big team-up movies, a first for the franchise. It is a risky move, but it may help rebuild excitement and make the Multiverse Saga finale feel truly huge.
For now, fans will watch the calendar, count the days, and get ready for a very long wait between the next two Avengers chapters.
